Defined in the USA as a mineral spring or as a luxurious therapeutic
resort, SPA’s definition finds its origins in a Belgium town of the same
name. SPA water was first discovered by the Romans, who first named
the natural source Spagére, which signifies “the bursting water”. The
Romans used the water for its therapeutic virtues as well as its good
taste. Spa’s quality has since become legendary. In 1700 the source was
known as the “Pearl of Ardennes” and it is because of the advance
bottling techniques the company developed that it became feasible to
export the water worldwide. Nowadays, the natural source is protected,
and benefits from a no-man’s land around the extraction zone. The
purpose is for the water to remain authentic and keep all its therapeutic
virtue as well as its legendary taste and bubbles.
